Five suspects accused of murdering the Commander of Ermelo Vehicle Investigation Unit, Lt-Col Piet Pretorius, were remanded in custody by the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 18 February 2025.
The suspects, including former police official Mthobisi Nkosi, Aubrey Xaba, Skhumbuzo Skhakhane, Nyiko Mujovo, and Valencia Skhosana, were arrested on 17 January 2025.

Nkosi, Xaba, Skhakhane and Mujovo, abandoned their bail application and will remain in custody until their next court appearance on 10 April 2025. Skhosana, however, proceeded with her bail application, which is scheduled to continue on 27 February 2025.
Speaking for the Hawks in Mpumalanga, Lt-Col Magonseni Nkosi said the five accused were arrested in less than 12 hours after the murder occurred.
“ The suspects were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as defeating the ends of justice. They appeared in the same court on 20 and 27 January 2025,” said Lt-Col Nkosi.
Mpumalanga Head of the Hawks, Major-General Nico Gerber, said the postponement will allow the investigation team to obtain further evidence in order to secure a speedy trial.
