An inquiry has been launched by the police after 10 buses caught fire at a Buscor depot in the early hours of Wednesday 17 December 2025, at around 01h00 am.

Spokesperson for the police in Mpumalanga, Lt-Col Jabu Ndubane, said a report indicates that security personnel noticed one bus on fire, but the fire raged further, resulting in more buses being affected.
“ Currently, circumstances surrounding this incident have not yet been established and will form part of the inquiry. Police urge anyone who might have information in this inquiry to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via MYSAPSAPP. All received information will be treated as confidential, and callers may opt to remain anonymous,” said Lt-Col Ndubane.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS(South African Police) in Mpumalanga, Major-General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has indicated that Police will work tirelessly to get to the bottom of what led to the fire.
“ We have taken note of the statement issued by the MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport. We will ensure that the established team works diligently, and for now, we cannot rule out any possibilities, ” said General Mkhwanazi.
