The need for SMMEs(Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises)to participate in the green economy was outlined during the Green Enterprise Development Colloquium held at Ermelo, in the Gert Sibande District, on Tuesday 25 March 2025.

The event was led by Mpumalanga MEC for DEDT(Economic Development and Tourism), Makhosazane Masilela, in partnership with Mpumalanga Green Energy Cluster Agency, and it featured a series of engagements from various key stakeholders.
According to DEDT, the Colloquium was intended to create a platform for SMMEs and various stakeholders to engage government in order to foster innovation, business growth and sustainability in the green economy.

In her address, MEC Masilela said the economic transformation agenda in the province can be driven through SMMEs development.
“ SMMEs are the backbone of our economy, play a pivotal role in the alleviation of poverty, job creation and sustainable growth. Accordingly, we have facilitated the establishment of the Mpumalanga Green Cluster Agency to drive our development agenda on the green economy space,” said Masilela.
The engagement session also provided small enterprises with an opportunity to interact with key stakeholders, share insights and explore opportunities for support and collaboration.
