A total of 34 illegal immigrants, aged between 20 and 77, were collectively sentenced to 3 months imprisonment by the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday 17 March 2025, for various charges including the contravention the Immigration Act of South Africa.
The accused were nabbed at Brondal Informal Settlement, near Nelspruit, during Operation Vala Umgodi on 15 March 2025. Some of the accused were reportedly facing charges including fraud, possession of illicit liquor, and possession of dagga.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Lt-Co Jabu Ndubane, said the police investigators worked collaboratively with the officials from the Department of Home Affairs, to ascertain the the status of the accused in South Africa.
The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major-General(Dr)Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the sentencing and congratulated the police officers for a job-well-done.
