Local community members and guests were entertained with cultural songs and dance during the annual Inkosi Uthunzi Ummemo Heritage Day Celebrations held at the Inkosi MT Yende Ogenyaneni Royal Residence in Idalia Ward 6,under Mkhondo Local Municipality on Saturday 15 September.
In a statement released by the Mkhondo Local Municipality, the event was hosted by Inkosi MT Yende, together with the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and the Mpumalanga Provincial House of Traditional & Khoisan Leaders.
“ The function is hosted annually and is meant to celebrate and encourage African culture and traditions, and also to raise awareness on both government and private sector initiatives with communities and also about the importance of cultural values,” said Umkhondo Local Municipality.
The event was also reportedly attended by the Executive Mayor(Mkhondo Local Municipality), Ngelosi Ndlovu, Speaker of the Municipal Council, Mduduzi Ngwenya, as well as Councillors and Community Development Workers(CDWs).
“ Messages of support were shared by the Chairperson of the Mpumalanga Provincial House of Traditional Leaders, Kgoshi Lameck Mokoena, Gert Sibande District Municipality Executive Mayor, Walter Mngomezulu, Mpumalanga Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Sappi Forest, Department of Education, Eskom, Department of Health, Imizamo Yabagibeli Rural Horse Riders,” said Mkhondo Local Municipality.
