A horrific accident reportedly claimed five people on the D2945 Road between Mgobodzi and Madadeni on Sunday 15 September in the early hours of the morning.
According to the spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL), Moeti Mmusi, the five victims were travelling in a sedan which is said to have overturned.
Mmusi also said a sixth person, who was also involved in the accident, is in a critical condition and is receiving treatment in hospital.
DCSSL MEC,Jackie Macie, says the only way to reduce such instances of death and injuries from occurring is purely based on motorists exercising caution on the road. The MEC wished a speedy recovery to the critically injured victim.
“ We must all respect the rules of the road. With greater caution and considerate driving, more lives will be spared. We must all play our part to bring an end to the devastation that tragedies like these bring to families and communities. This we can do by using the road safely. Motorists must always adjust their driving according to prevailing conditions on the road,” said Macie.
According to Mmusi, the cause of the crash is not yet known at this stage and an investigation is currently underway.
