Larissa Aloma Vern who was arrested for fraud

The case against Delmas Primary School Financial Officer, Larrisa Aloma Vern(52), was postponed to 19 and 20 February for bail application and she was remanded in custody following her appearance at the Delmas Magistrates Court on 13 February.

Vern was reportedly arrested by the Secunda-based Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for fraud, on Friday 9 February after she allegedly stole an amount of R2 665 007.34, from the school school bank account and paid it to four of her personal bank accounts.

This was reportedly after investigations revealed that Vern allegedly paid herself a bonus of R22 543.00, which was not permitted.

According to a previous report by Mpumalanga spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, one bank account reportedly received more than one payment with different references. He added that Vern allegedly used the name of account holders known by the school to transfer the funds to her personal bank accounts.

ā€œ It is alleged that during December 2021, the suspect was appointed by Delmas Primary School as a financial officer. Her duties were to make payments for services rendered, pay salaries to teachers appointed by the governing body, receive cash for sales made at the school, manage the school budget, ensure expenses do not exceed budget, petty cash and deposit at the bank,ā€ said Sekgotodi.
