Luthandolwethu Mahlangu from Vulamehlo secondary school in Nkangala district, deservedly commanded a standing ovation and thunderous applause from the audience, during her breathtaking performance on the last day of the ABC Motsepe South African School Choral Eisteddfod, held at the Rhema Bible Church, in Gauteng.
The brilliantly-talented Mahlangu delivered an unforgettable, courageous and emotional rendition in the Mezzo Soprano(Koma) category. She represented the province alongside other talented learners from different schools in Mpumalanga.
The MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, has expressed exictement on the overall display by Mpumalanga school choirs that managed to take first place in various categories, such as Lwaleng primary school, Shongwe boarding school and solo performers such as Thokozani Blessing Zulu.
” Our choirs proved to be second to none and proudly flew the provincial flag high. We are overwhelmed with excitement following their performance. We attribute their success to the hard work and dedication of our learners, teachers and parents,” said Majuba.
The MEC thanked the leadership of the department of basic education(DBE), under the stewardship of minister Angie Motshekga, for allowing learners the opportunity to showcase their musical talent and prowess.
“It was like the Eisteddfod was meant only for Mpumalanga as the names of winners were called on stage. Mpumalanga was represented in the majority of categories,”said Majuba
He furthermore encouraged all young people in Mpumalanga province to participate in the arts.
” The arts are a powerful tool for personal development and social transformation. I urge every young person to use their God-given talents to make a difference in the world. Indeed it was the best way to close the youth month by presenting the best that the place of the rising sun can offer,” said the MEC.
