Mbombela has turned a place for the devil ,where robberies,murder and kidnapping has become a place where anyone willing to do it comes to to .
Two men driving in a silver-grey VW Polo were shot when they tried to rob a man who was towards Malalane and offered a lift to a man who was hitch-hiking at Valencia and going to Malelane this morning. According to a statement from SAPS by Colonel Mdluli states that the two men decided to divert to Croc Valley and took out a knife ,pointed it at the victim them hel broke loose.
“Along the way they diverted to Croc Valley where one of them drew a knife in an attempt to rob the man who was given a lift.
The man drew his firearm and allegedly shot both men. One died at the scene and the other died while he was being transported to hospital. The two are yet to be identified,” he said.
Mdhluli said a case of robbery with a weapon was opened, as well two inquests. The firearm used in the incident has since been confiscated, as well as the knife and the vehicle. The items will also form part of an investigation to be conducted.
“Our preliminary investigation suggests that the VW Polo may be linked to other reported incidents of armed robbery in which hitch-hikers were robbed at various spots around Mbombela. We also suspect that the car was a rented car,” he said.
Provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga Lt Gen Lt Daphney Manamela urged people to refrain from asking for lifts and rather use safe modes of Transport.
