The contribution of women in the health fraternity and their extraordinary roles in society as a whole, were recognised by MEC for health in Mpumalanga, Sasekani Manzini, accompanied by senior management including hospital CEO’s (chief executive officers)during an event held at Nutting House resort, in Mbombela, on Tuesday.

The event was said to be in line with public service women management week, which focused on an action plan to promote women empowerment and gender equality in public service, as well as those in senior positions.

A progress report on women empowerment plan, which detailed the 8 principles envisioned by the head of department (HOD), was welcomed by Manzini. The MEC spoke out about gender-based violence and said that no one should be subjected to it, regardless of the positions they hold.

” Please come forward, regardless of your position at work. You are a human being, before your profession. Seek assistance from professionals and always remember you are loved by your family and friends. Take good care of yourselves, you have people that still love to have you around,” said the MEC.

Other speakers at the event included executive chairperson of Buscor, Dr Nora Nkuna-Fakude, who also urged women, especially in rural areas, to stay motivated in all their endeavours.
