A 24 year-old Nigerian male suspect was arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of drugs in Sabie, on Friday 3 January 2025.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, the arrest was reportedly effected during a routine patrol by members of the SAPS (South African Police Service) Vala Umgodi Operation who are deployed in the area.
“ While members were busy patrolling they spotted a suspicious man carrying a bag. Upon stopping and searching him, they found suspected drugs inside the bag, which included CAT, Heroine and Crystal Meth, it was at this point that the suspect was apprehended and charged accordingly,” said Brigadier Mdhluli.

In another incident that occurred in Graskop, less than 30 minutes away from Sabie, an inspection conducted by members of the Vala Umgodi Operation in the CBD led to the arrest of 52 year-old male spaza shop owner who was reportedly found in possession of 66 cartoons of alleged illegal cigarettes worth an estimated value of R26 000.
The alleged illicit cigarettes were reportedly confiscated for further investigation.
“ Both suspects will appear at the Sabie Magistrate’s Court on Monday 6 January 2025 for possession of drugs and Contravention of the Tobacco Products Amendment Act, respectively,” said Brigadier Mdhluli.
