Police in Calcutta are investigating a case of murder, with two counts of attempted murder, after the fatal shooting of Charlene Felicity Matthews(30), on 4 April.

Matthews was the widow of late chief Clyde Mnisi (37), who suffered a similar fate when he was reportedly gunned down by unknown assailants on the evening of 26 March, next to the Kruger Mpumalanga International(KMI) Airport near White River. Mnisi’s killers are still at large.

Spokesperson for the police in Mpumalanga, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, issued a statement detailing the gruesome incident.

“According to the information, the police (at Calcutta) were called to a shooting incident at the residential place of the late chief. Upon arrival they found the lifeless body of the woman with multiple gunshot wounds on the head. Two other males, identified as family members, also sustained gunshot wounds and they were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

“A preliminary investigation by the police has since revealed that armed suspect(s) somehow got into the house, shot at the three victims and fled the scene,” said Mohlala.

He added that police found cartridges on the scene, also that a team of investigators has been assembled to ensure that those response for this crime are brought to book.

” Part of the investigation will be to establish how the suspect(s) gained entry into the house. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage, no one has been arrested,” said Mohlala.
