The 2022/2023 DStv premiership champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, appointed Mathias Zangenberg as the head of physical performance.
Zangenberg will reportedly work across the club to align the methodology of physical training of the senior, ladies and academy teams.
Mamelodi Sundowns’ sporting director, Flemming Berg, welcomed Zangenberg’s inclusion to the team.
” His knowledge, experience and work ethic will assist in getting the first team to the next level, to make a clear strategy for physical training and injury prevention throughout the club,” said Berg.
The club said in a media statement that the new appointee holds the UEFA A-licence, has over 15 years experience as a physical and conditioning coach and he was a member of the technical team with major Denmark Superliga sides, including FC Nordsjaelland, which has participated in the UEFA Champions league and Europa league.
Zangenberg, reportedly participated in the FIFA world cup in Qatar as physical coach for the Ghana national team and holds a Masters degree specialising in human physiology from the University of Copenhagen.
This move further consolidates the technical team at Masandawana, potentially adding to the uninterrupted winning streak as the club prepares for the remaining CAF champions league games and the DStv premiership for next season.
